2021 Pre-Oscar Insights, Talk With The Master

In one of four interviews that make up the series, 2021 Pre-Oscar Insights - Talk with The Master (with Coca Xie of China Entertainment), Tau Films Co-Founder and CEO John Hughes, discusses his pioneering involvement with computer-graphics imagery, and the stories that appeal to audiences. He was previously a co-founder of Rhythm and Hues (R&H) and led the studio for 26 years, earning 3 Oscars for Best Visual Effects (Babe, The Golden Compass, and Life of Pi) as well as 4 technical Oscars for achievements in science and engineering.  

"For most of my career, I was an artist on computer-created imagery,” notes John. "Also, part of my job was to try and remove roadblocks. I saw my job as trying to make it such that artists can do what they need to do…to remove anything that's getting in their way."

"For me, it's not about the visual effect," adds John. "It's about the people. I am in this business because I get to work with artists."
